Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Pearl Thusi Roasted for Supporting ZANU-PF
While K.O is receiving his flowers for criticising South Africa’s government, actress Pearl Thusi is getting bashed for lending support to Zimbabwe’s government.
ICYDK, Zimbabwe is currently run by the Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) party, whose members – and supporters – are infamous for subjugating its citizens, intimidating opposition leaders/supporters, and for their use of violence and harassment, ESPECIALLY during election-time.
(And the less said about the party’s late leader, Robert Mugabe, the better …)
So, you can imagine the amount of flak that Pearl Thusi caught when Nick Mangwana, the permanent secretary for Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, tweeted this recently:
Actor Sello Maake Ka-Ncube (AKA Archie Moroka) also looked like he was present during the “True Zimbabwe” tour, if this pic is anything to by:
The “Quantico” star is seated in the far-left of the front row, while what looks like Maake Ka-Ncube is seated next to her – both are rocking scarves bearing ZANU-PF’s signature colours.
As you can probably predict, both Mzansi Twitter and Zimbabwean Twitter were NOT happy about this:
The likes of @Shadaya_Knight really went in on Thusi and the state of celebrity (be warned – this user’s views are a little controversial):
Meanwhile, Zimbabwean journalist Hopewell Chin’ono criticised Zim’s government for getting SA celebs to “sell out” for them and spread propaganda, all while their own citizens are suffering:
To which Mangwana verbosely replied:
Still, this didn’t stop Zimbabweans from expressing their disappointment, as any money that these celebs (allegedly) received could have been used to hire actual Zimbabwean celebrities. Better yet, to be put towards improving the country’s services and welfare:
What do you think, folks? Is Pearl Thusi in the wrong for promoting the ZANU-PF, or does she have the right to support whomever she wants, albeit at the possibility of getting roasted for it? You decide!
